Portavogie Rangers FC are delighted to announce a donation of £330 to Portaferry RNLI, with the funds raised during our pre-season friendly against Dundonald FC ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The fixture was organised in place of our annual Fisherman’s Cup, which unfortunately could not be arranged in 2025. Despite the absence of the traditional charity match, supporters from both clubs once again got behind a fantastic cause, helping us continue our commitment to supporting the lifesaving work carried out by the volunteer crews at the RNLI.
The Fisherman’s Cup has become an important part of the club’s calendar since it was established in 2018 through an agreement between Portavogie Rangers and Portrush FC. The annual fixture was created not only to strengthen the friendship between the two clubs, but also to raise vital funds for the RNLI, a charity whose work is particularly close to the hearts of our fishing community. Over the years, the fixture has generated hundreds of pounds for the RNLI, thanks to the incredible generosity of players, volunteers and supporters.
As a club rooted in the fishing village of Portavogie, we understand the invaluable role that the RNLI plays in keeping those who work and enjoy our local waters safe. Their volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing a lifesaving service that so many families across the Ards Peninsula and further afield rely upon.
We would like to thank Dundonald FC for taking part in the fixture, everyone who attended and donated on the day, and all of our volunteers who helped make the event possible.
We are proud to continue supporting the RNLI and look forward to the return of the Fisherman’s Cup in the future.
